The introduction of a guest investor residence permit has been postponed

One of the novelties of the new immigration law rewriting Hungarian immigration rules, which will enter into force in 2024, was the guest investor residence permit, which can be granted to third-country nationals whose entry and residence is in the interest of the national economy in view of their investments in Hungary.

This type of permit was originally supposed to apply from 1 July 2024, but with the amendment that came into effect on 11 May 2024, this date has been changed to 1 January 2025.

There are several options for investing in support of obtaining a 10-year licence, which can be extended and includes family reunification. The easiest of these is real estate investment, which requires the purchase of 500,000 euros worth of residential real estate in Hungary.
