New opportunity for young people: Colombia joins the Working Holiday program

From April 16, 2025, young citizens of Colombia can also participate in Hungary’s Working Holiday program, expanding international mobility opportunities.

The range of international experience opportunities has expanded: as of April 16, 2025, young Colombian citizens are also eligible to join the Working Holiday program.

The Working Holiday program is designed for young people who wish to stay in Hungary primarily for tourism purposes, but would like to take up temporary employment to help finance their stay.

The program is based on a bilateral agreement between countries, which defines, among other things, the age limits of participants, the maximum duration of stay, and the required financial and insurance conditions.

Partner countries where the program is already in effect:

  • New Zealand
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • Australia
  • Japan
  • Chile
  • Hong Kong
  • Argentina
  • Ecuador
  • Colombia (from April 2025) – the bilateral Working Holiday Scheme entered into force on 16 April 2025, as officially announced by the Hungarian Embassy in Bogotá

Participants in the program are issued a temporary residence permit by the Hungarian authorities.
