Official inspections of employers employing foreign nationals remain in focus in 2026

In 2026, intensified inspections will continue at employers employing foreign nationals. Authorities verify the necessary permits and compliance with reporting obligations; omissions may lead to public order or labour fines and may also jeopardise future work and residence permit applications.

In 2026, the competent immigration directorates and employment supervisory authorities will continue to carry out intensified inspections at employers employing foreign nationals. During these inspections, they examine whether employees hold the necessary permits and whether employers have complied with all reporting obligations prescribed by law.

As this area remains a priority focus for the authorities, it is particularly important to ensure continuous lawful employment. The authorities may still carry out on-site inspections without prior notice, and if they establish an omission, they may also impose public order fines and labour fines on the employer even without holding an on-site inspection.

The amount of the fine payable depends on the severity of the infringement, whether it is repeated, and the number of persons affected. In addition to paying the fine, a further consequence of the infringement may be the rejection of future applications for work and residence permits.
