Under the new immigration law in force from 2024, residence permit extensions could be submitted no earlier than 45 days before the expiry of the existing permit. This led to a situation where, due to the long evaluation period and slow document production, the applicant received the new card even weeks after the expiry of his previous document.
With the amendment of the law entering into force on 11.05.2024, this restriction has been lifted, and in the new wording of the law, the application for extension must be submitted no later than 45 days before the expiry of the permit.
This is a very important change, especially for the types of permits allowing the pursuit of gainful employment, because the application procedure for extension can be started up to 120 days before expiry, which will allow the OIF authorisation and the new residence document to be issued in time.
